The State Examination Dutch as a second language (NT2)
What does the Dutch State Exam at B1 and B2 level entail? Which skills are tested in the B1 and B2 Dutch State Exams? The Dutch as a Second Language (NT2) State Exam assesses your proficiency in Dutch and is a nationally recognized exam by the Education Executive Agency (DUO). It consists of two programs, each focused on a different language level.
B1
Program I
Mbo-level (level 3 of 4)
Goal:
For people who want to study or work at a vocational level (MBO) level. This demonstrates that you have sufficient command of the Dutch language for daily communication.
Skills:
Read
Understanding common texts from everyday life
Listen
Comprehension of spoken language on everyday topics
Speak
Have simple conversations about familiar topics
To write
Short, clear texts such as emails and letters
B2
Program II
hbo- of universitair niveau
Goal:
For those who want to study at a university of applied sciences or university. Requires a higher and more complex command of Dutch.
Skills:
Read
Understanding longer, more complex texts on a variety of subjects
Listen
Comprehension of spoken language on everyday topics
Speak
Participate fluently in discussions and express complex ideas
To write
Clear, detailed texts on complex topics
General
- Both programs consist of four exam components: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
All exams are computer-based. - You will receive a separate certificate for each completed component.
- Only when you have passed all four components will you receive the State Exam NT2 diploma.
- It is not mandatory to take the State Exam B1 before taking the State Exam B2.
- You can choose Program II directly if your level allows it.
